HOW TO MEASURE YOUR ARCHED WINDOWS FOR SCREENS

To measure your arched windows for a full window screen frame, follow these simple instructions.  For the most accuracy in preparing your screen measurements, right click on the diagram to the left, click on Open Link in New Window, right click on the picture in the new window, click Copy Image and past it to a new Word page, then print it. Once you have a printed copy, write the measurement next to each number according to the instructions below.

If the screen is going to be mounted inside a window frame, to secure the screen in place, allow 5/16 of an inch all around the window for the encasement clips on both sides of the window, as well as above and below the window.   If the screen is going to be flush with the outside wall, you may want to add ½ inch to 1 inch all the way around the screen, according to your choice.  The number of encasement clips around the screen is also a matter of preference.

When measuring the height of the window:
1. Measure from the left lower corner to the top corner (as indicated by arrow no. 1);
2. Measure the middle of the window from the outer edge frame at the bottom of the window to the outer edge of the center of the arch (as indicated by arrow no. 2); and
3. Finally, measure from the right lower corner of window to the top corner (as indicated by arrow no. 3 in the above drawing). Record the measurements next to the number designated for that area.

When measuring the width of the window:
Measure all the way to the outside edges of the window frame (as indicated by the arrows) and measure all three levels (top, middle, and bottom) to ensure accuracy. Record the measurements next to the number designated for that area.

Measuring the thickness of the screen frame:
Finally, measure and record the thickness of the frame near the bottom corner. (See Tips on Measuring Windows—Measuring the Thickness of a Box Frame at this link: http://www.bestwindowscreen.com/measuring-tips).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FIBERGLASS

Very few things in life have benefits without disadvantages and screens are no different.  An established fact is that fiberglass is the industry standard screen used for most window screens and door screens.  Fiberglass is durable, least expensive, and comes in different mesh sizes, strand diameters, and colors. The most commonly used fiberglass fabric is the 18 x 16 mesh count per square inch with .011" strand diameter, however, it is available in 18 x 14 mesh count with .013" strand diameter, and 20 x 20 mesh count with .013" diameter. The higher the number of mesh count per square inch, the tighter the weave. Although fiberglass is durable and lasts for several years, it does wear out more frequently than other types of screen fabrics such as pet screen, aluminum screen, stainless steel, copper or bronze. Fiberglass screens are made of glass fiber strands that are woven criss-cross into a mesh pattern forming screen fabric. This screen fabric is then dipped into vinyl coating with additives to give the material fire and weather resistant properties. This process is what makes the screen more durable.For measuring tips for window screen frames, check out our website under Measuring Tips.
