WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FIBERGLASS

Very few things in life have benefits without disadvantages and screens are no different.  An established fact is that fiberglass is the industry standard screen used for most window screens and door screens.  Fiberglass is durable, least expensive, and comes in different mesh sizes, strand diameters, and colors. The most commonly used fiberglass fabric is the 18 x 16 mesh count per square inch with .011" strand diameter, however, it is available in 18 x 14 mesh count with .013" strand diameter, and 20 x 20 mesh count with .013" diameter. The higher the number of mesh count per square inch, the tighter the weave. Although fiberglass is durable and lasts for several years, it does wear out more frequently than other types of screen fabrics such as pet screen, aluminum screen, stainless steel, copper or bronze. Fiberglass screens are made of glass fiber strands that are woven criss-cross into a mesh pattern forming screen fabric. This screen fabric is then dipped into vinyl coating with additives to give the material fire and weather resistant properties. This process is what makes the screen more durable. For measuring tips for window screen frames, check out our website under Measuring Tips.
